Body piercing is more than just a quick service. It’s a medical-grade procedure that demands knowledge, precision, and experience. I appreciate when clients are excited and ready to get involved in the process. But one of the most common issues I encounter is when people try to do part of my job before their appointment, especially when it comes to buying jewelry or aftercare in advance.

Let me explain why it’s best to hold off and let me do the work.

When Good Intentions Backfire: Buying Jewelry or Aftercare Too Early

I understand the urge to be prepared. You’re excited, maybe nervous, and want to make sure everything is in place. But here’s the thing: purchasing jewelry or aftercare products before coming in for your appointment often leads to problems.

Most jewelry bought online isn’t implant grade, even when the listing claims it is. Poor-quality materials can delay healing, trigger reactions, and in some cases, make the piercing impossible to perform safely. Similarly, many over-the-counter aftercare products contain harsh chemicals or preservatives that can irritate your skin.

There’s a Reason for Protocol

Every piercing is customized to your anatomy. That means the length, gauge, diameter, material, and style of the jewelry must be chosen after an in-person consultation. I follow standards backed by the Association of Professional Piercers (APP), which require ASTM F-136 titanium or other approved implant-grade materials. I also use sterile tools and prep every piece of jewelry for safe insertion.

You can’t guess what size will fit your body. That’s why you’re coming to a professional.

Not All Aftercare Is Created Equal

Not all saline is safe, and not all products labeled “piercing aftercare” are appropriate. Many contain alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or harsh preservatives that do more harm than good. I offer aftercare instructions and products that have been tested and trusted by professionals. When you come to your appointment, I’ll explain what your body needs to heal and why.

You Wouldn’t Bring Hair Dye to a Hair Appointment. So Don’t Bring Jewelry to a Piercing

A piercing is a service that requires training, technique, and assessment. Think about it:

  • You wouldn’t bring your own hair dye to a salon and expect a stylist to use it.
  • You wouldn’t show up to a surgery with a heart you bought online.
  • You wouldn’t choose stitches before seeing a doctor.

Piercing is no different. Trust me to select the right jewelry and aftercare because that’s part of what you’re paying for.

Research Is Great! Just Let Me Handle the Rest

I love when clients come in educated and informed. It shows you care. But once you’re here, let me guide the process. I’ll walk you through every option, answer your questions, and make sure your piercing is done right. From the jewelry to the aftercare plan.

I stock gorgeous, safe jewelry from brands like Industrial Strength, BVLA, NeoMetal, Pupil Hall, Anatometal, and more. I carry multiple sizes and styles, and I custom fit each piece based on what your body needs.
