This Memorial Day weekend, I had the chance to attend a Surface Piercing Seminar led by the one and only Luis Garcia, hosted at Black Lotus Tattoo in Baltimore, Maryland.
I originally sat in on Luis’s surface piercing class at APP Conference, and while that session was incredibly informative, this weekend’s seminar took it to another level. This was a longer, more hands-on experience, giving attendees a deeper look into wound shaping technique, placement techniques, and thoughtful approaches to anatomy. I even got to watch Luis perform a few surface piercings live—a rare and valuable opportunity—and I had the honor of getting pierced myself during the seminar.
It was especially meaningful to attend this class alongside some familiar faces in the community. Sydney from Incognito Studio, a fellow 2015 Al D. Scholar, was there. Getting to reconnect with them, while also meeting more new piercers and sharing ideas, was one of the highlights of the experience.
I’m incredibly grateful for educational opportunities like this one. They allow me to continue growing as a piercer, refine my techniques, and connect with a community that is passionate, knowledgeable, and always striving to do better.
With APP Conference in Vegas just around the corner, I’m more excited than ever to keep learning, reconnect with more amazing peers, and bring all that energy and knowledge back to my clients.
