I was genuinely excited to attend this year’s APP Members Retreat, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. After a busy year in the studio, the opportunity to step away, reset, and reconnect with the community was something I truly needed. This wasn’t just a break—it was an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.
While there was definitely some much-needed downtime (yes, I did get to ride a boat and play kickball), this trip was also filled with incredible education and inspiring conversations. I took a wide range of classes, each one bringing something new to the table:
- “The Extra-Terrestrial Origins of Body Jewelry”
- “The Rise of Artisan Jewelry”
- “New Materials for Initial Piercing Jewelry”
- “Bumps, the Good Kind”
- “Studio DIY for Piercers”
- “First Aid & Narcan Training”
- “Members Piercing Technique”
- “The Art of Decompressing”
Beyond the lectures and workshops, I also joined a few roundtable discussions covering topics like Statim maintenance, teaching within the industry, and more. These casual, peer-driven conversations are always where some of the best ideas and insights come from, and I left each one feeling more connected and informed.
Of course, a big part of why I attend retreats like this is the community. I got to catch up with some of my fellow APP volunteers, spend quality time with friends, and meet a few new piercers I hope to stay in touch with going forward. Networking in this industry means everything—it keeps us inspired, accountable, and evolving.
I returned to Staten Island feeling refreshed, motivated, and more passionate than ever about what I do. I can’t wait to share what I’ve learned with my clients and continue offering the highest level of care and expertise at Bound for Glory Tattoo.
Thanks to the APP for creating these retreats that let us both learn and breathe, and thank you to my clients for your continued support. I’m back and ready to pierce!
