What Are Genital Piercings?
Genital piercings include a range of placements designed to work with the natural anatomy of the body.
These piercings vary in placement, function, and healing time, and each one requires careful assessment to determine what will work best for your body.
Proper placement and jewelry selection are essential for both comfort and long-term wear.
Recommended by Elayne Angel
I’m honored to be a recommended piercer by Elayne Angel, a master body piercer and author of The Piercing Bible.
On her website, she refers clients in the New York City area to me for genital piercings. Her work has helped shape standards and education within the professional piercing community, and that recognition reflects the level of care and experience I bring to these appointments.

Types of Genital Piercings I Offer
There are many different types of genital piercings, each suited to specific anatomy and goals.
Some of the more common options include:
Prince Albert (PA)
A piercing that passes through tissue near the urethral opening and exits underneath. This is one of the more commonly requested genital piercings and is known for relatively straightforward healing.
Frenum Piercings
Placed along the underside of the shaft, frenum piercings can be done as a single placement or as part of a series (commonly referred to as a “ladder”).
Apadravya
A vertical piercing that passes through the head of the anatomy. This is a more advanced piercing that requires proper anatomy and a commitment to healing.
Ampallang
A horizontal piercing through the head of the anatomy. Like the apadravya, this is a more advanced placement and requires careful consideration.
Vertical Clitoral Hood (VCH)
A piercing placed through the vertical fold of tissue above the clitoral area. This is one of the most commonly performed genital piercings and depends heavily on proper anatomy.
Horizontal Clitoral Hood (HCH)
A horizontal placement through the tissue above the clitoral area. Suitability depends on anatomy and structure.
Christina Piercing
A surface-style piercing placed at the top of the vulva. This is more aesthetic in nature and requires proper placement to reduce irritation.
Inner & Outer Labia Piercings
Placed through the inner or outer folds of tissue. These piercings can vary in number and placement depending on preference and anatomy.
Jewelry Options for Genital Piercings
Jewelry is selected carefully based on the specific piercing and anatomy.
Common options include:
- Implant-grade titanium or stainless
- Captive bead rings
- Circular barbells
- Internally threaded
- Solid gold options when appropriate
Proper sizing and fit are critical to ensure comfort, healing, and long-term wear.
I follow safety standards supported by the Association of Professional Piercers to ensure proper placement, jewelry selection, and healing.

Pain Level & Healing Time
Pain levels and healing times vary depending on the specific piercing.
In general:
- Some placements are relatively quick and mild
- Others are more intense and require more healing time
- Healing can range from a few weeks to several months depending on the piercing
I’ll go over realistic expectations based on the specific placement you’re considering.
Proper jewelry, downsizing, and aftercare all play a major role in how smoothly the piercing heals.
Aftercare Basics
Genital piercings require consistent aftercare and attention to hygiene.
Basic aftercare includes:
- Cleaning with sterile saline solution
- Maintaining good hygiene
- Avoiding unnecessary irritation or friction
- Timely downsizing, when recommended
I’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions during your appointment so you feel confident caring for your piercing.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Genital Piercings
Genital piercings can work well for many people, but anatomy and lifestyle are key factors.
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Have anatomy that supports the desired piercing
- Are comfortable discussing placement and expectations
- Can commit to proper aftercare
- Understand that healing varies by placement
- Are at least 18 years of age
If a specific piercing isn’t a good fit, I’ll explain why and suggest alternatives when appropriate.
